As a R&D Engineer 1 you will be responsible for the functions outlined below Essential Functions: Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures. Research, design, develop, test, and improve manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods and equipment. Apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials; confer with equipment vendors where necessary. Utilize Daniel Defense's Agile Stage gate process to develop new products and accessories. Integral part of the R&D team that develops and demonstrates technical feasibility of Product concepts. Assure technological development is aligned with consumer / market trends. Leverages academia, enabling technologies, alternative industries, and competitive set for product concepts. Ability to rank several technical executions of product concepts / consumer needs in terms of cost, performance, time to market, technical risk, etc. Assist engineering, sales, and marketing in identifying new product opportunities. Conducts research and development activities for an organization. Applies research theories, principles, and models when conducting experiments and research activities. Requires hands on prototype creation and testing. Summarizes research results and communicates findings to internal and external bodies. Assesses the scope of research projects and ensures projects are on time and within budget. Develops technical documentation for all projects and presents finding and recommendations. Conduct audits of assembly and machining processes and/or work instructions; solicit observations from operators. Participates in the company's efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity. Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor's Degree with 4-7 years of applicable experience or strong firearms background or a combination of related experience, education and/or training to sufficiently and successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Strong firearm background / experience. Understanding of product development & design related to materials applications, failure analysis, materials characterization, and mechanical testing. Self-driven hands on, with good communication skills. Must be able to work in a team environment, including cross-functional teams, and exert influence without alienating others. Strong problem-solving ability. The ability to quickly understand scope and constraints of a problem and to develop solutions that meet timing, cost, business requirements and consumer needs. Ability to clearly communicate ideas, processes, and technical requirements through effective written, graphic, and oral methods. Basic understanding of Lean, Kaizen, & Design for Manufacturing principles a plus. Positive attitude with strong work ethic. Knowledge of SolidWorks. Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Permission to Play Values. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the work day. Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc. Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
